Aston is a 16.1hh sports horse, and presented lame in early 2017 at 9 years old. Nerve blocks showed he was bilaterally lame in front with the pain being in his feet; x-rays and an MRI confirmed a diagnosis of Navicular and showed degradation of bones P2 and P3 with light ligament damage. Over the following 12 months he had remedial shoes, time off, 2 Tildren infusions and steroid injections into both navicular bursa. Aston's lovely owner reported periods of improvement but they were short lived. With the insurance cover running out, there was nothing left to lose in taking his shoes off which at the time, was a very new concept to his owner. After a visit and consultation, Aston spent 4 months here at PB Barefoot Rehab and Retirement Paddock Paradise Livery immediately after his remedial shoes were removed.

Aston then had a diet overhaul and followed careful rehab under our guidance, whilst being introduced to the best hoof care and advice from Georgie at Hoof Matters. Having only being stabled on a traditional livery yard previously, he loved track life and made great friends in Dennis, Penny and Dubri.

Aston is now completely sound in full work, hacking on roads (4 hours a week) and on stony tracks across the Cannock Chase whilst participating in riding club clinics, training and also competing at novice level dressage. Aston and his lovely owner went barefoot over 4 years ago and haven't looked back since.
