'Horse Health Tracker' provides horse owners with an easy way to record their horse's health, paying attention to particular areas of their horse's health such as hoof health, event lines, diet changes, ACTH results and more. 1 book per horse.
As Laminitis and EMS rehabilitation specialists, we've spent years telling our clients to buy a blank note book and to start noting down everything to do with your horse's management, diet and any changes or areas of concern.
Why? Because Laminitis and EMS is rife in the equine world, and we believe a key part in combating that is by helping owners keep track of what's what, to understand the extent of which our management and decisions affects our horses, and what signs to look out for. Inflammation, pain, soreness, fat pads and Laminitis does not happen over night.
Our goal with this book is to help owners identify problem areas quickly so they can be resolved quickly, to take the guessing work out of any health concerns and to gain a deeper understanding of triggers in their horse.
Inside our tracker, you'll find:
- Horse Profile - to log current details
- Diet & Management - to log current details
- Laminitis Help Sheet
- EMS Help Sheet
- Health Tracker Example Sheet
- Health Tracker - log changes in your horse's health
- Diet Changes - log changes in your horse's diet
- Event Line Tracker - log your horse's event lines
- Hoof Help Sheet
- Trim Appointments - log trimming appointments
- Weight Tracker - log your horse's weight changes
- Worm Counts - log your horse's worm count results
- Deworming Tracker - log any wormer that is given
- Vaccinations - log your horse's vaccinations
- ACTH Results - log your horse's ACTH results
- Non-Routine Medication - log any non-routine medication
- Notes & Photos
By keeping a diary of your horse's health, you have documented details to go back to should any issues arise.
For example, if a new event line has formed, we know from looking at the tracker why it has happened and if it's anything to be concerned about. Check the diet changes to see if the time line matches, or if the medication, vaccination or wormer was the culprit.
We always recommend that the following is noted down:
- When the horse has had medication, vaccinations or wormer
- New medications, short or long term
- Changes in hay, feed, salt, supplements etc
- Changes in environment such as a new companion, use of a different field or track system, or a change in turnout
- If or when the neighbouring fields have been sprayed with any chemicals
The above should also be recorded in addition to:
- New event lines on the outer hoof wall
- Periods of footiness or attacks of Laminitis
- Puffiness of the eyes or swelling of the sheath/udders
- Weight fluctuations, loss or gain
- Blood in the white line, bruising, thrush or abscesses
- Changes in behaviour (any)
- Skin conditions, allergies, coat changes and so on
